2024 BARISTA PRELIMINARY COMPETITIONS
Each Barista Prelim will host 8-24 competitors. The Top 3 competitors from each Prelim receive a reserved spot at one of the CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions.

Registration fees are set by the Prelims Host, ranging from $10-$40. All supplies, wares, and coffee are provided!
Host Registration Pages Coming Soon! For the 2024 season of the United States Barista Championship (USBC) there will be 2 Qualifying Competitions leading up to the national championship. In order to move on to USBC, Baristas must first qualify at CoffeeChamps. All unreserved spots for CoffeeChamps will be available for Open Registration in the Fall of 2023.
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Barista Prelims: Competitors will have 7 minutes to make espressos and milk beverages for 2 sensory judges. Competitor’s preparation skills will be assessed by 1 technical judge. A Head Judge oversees all these judges but does not score. Competitors must use the provided compulsory coffee(s). Competitors will choose from 2 or more compulsory coffees in a blind tasting. All wares and equipment are supplied by Prelims Hosts! Competitors may bring their own wares if they would like.
ONLINE LEARNING SESSION
The Online Learning Sessions are designed for competitors and judges. This one hour training is required for all Prelims judges and competitors. This training will cover Rules, scoresheets, and judging protocols. Online Learning Sessions attendance is mandatory. These sessions will be recorded; those who cannot attend the live session(s) may watch the recordings. However, attendance at a live session is highly recommended, so everyone has the opportunity to ask questions.

2024 BREWERS CUP PRELIMINARY COMPETITIONS
Each Brewers Cup Prelim will host 6-16 competitors. The Top 4 competitors from each Prelim receive a reserved spot at one of the CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions.

For the 2024 season of the United States Brewers Cup (USBrC) there will be one Qualifying Competition leading up to the National Championship. In order to move on to USBrC, Brewers must first qualify at CoffeeChamps. All unreserved spots for CoffeeChamps will be available for Open Registration in the Fall of 2023, after the conclusion of the Prelims
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Brewers Cup Prelims: COMPETITION STRUCTURE: During the Preliminary round, competitors will have 8 minutes to brew two sensory judges each their own brew of a host-provided coffee with an accompanying presentation that enhances the coffee experience.

Each Coffee in Good Spirits Prelim will host 4-12 competitors. The Top 3 competitors from each Prelim receive a reserved spot at one of the CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions.

For the 2023 season of the United States Coffee in Good Spirits (USCIGS) there will be 2 Qualifying Competitions leading up to the national championship. In order to move on to USCIGS, Barkeeps must first qualify at CoffeeChamps. All unreserved spots for CoffeeChamps will be available for Open Registration in the Fall of 2022, after the conclusion of the Prelims.
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Coffee in Good Spirits Prelims: Competitors will have 6 minutes to make 2 individual brewed coffee and alcohol cocktails for 2 taste judges. A Head Judge oversees all these judges but does not score. Competitors must use the provided compulsory coffee(s) and alcohol. Competitors will choose from 2 or more compulsory coffees in a blind tasting. Competitors will randomly select their primary alcohol by rolling a dice, picking a card, or spinning a wheel!

- Rum - Bacardi Wares and equipment are supplied by Prelims Hosts! Competitors may bring their own wares, if they would like. Hosts will have a small variety of manual brewing devices, filter media, and kettle(s), if competitors would like something specific they will need to bring their own.

COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Cup Tasters Prelims: Fast and fun, the Cup Tasters Prelims challenges competitors to test their sensory skills by discerning taste differences in a “triangulation.” Tasters receive 5 sets of three cups where two cups are identical and one is different. Competitors are challenged to taste, smell, recall, and choose the unique cup in each triangulation. The person with the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time wins!

2024 LATTE ART PRELIMINARY COMPETITIONS
Each LAC Prelim will host 12-18 competitors. This newer competition evaluates Latte Artists’ skills to design and replicate 2 matching Free Pour Lattes and 2 matching Macchiatos while technical judges score competitors according to their cleanliness and bar flow. The Top 4 competitors from each Prelim receive a reserved spot at one of the CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions.

For the 2024 season of the United States Latte Art Championship (USLAC) there will be Qualifying Competitions leading up to the National Championship. In order to move on to USLAC National Championship, Latte Artists must first qualify at CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions. All unreserved spots for CoffeeChamps Qualifying Competitions will be available for Open Registration in the Fall of 2023.
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Latte Art Preliminaries:
- Competitors will have 9 minutes to make TWO 10oz matching Free Pour Lattes and TWO 4oz matching maccihatos for 2 Visual Judges. For more information on the definition of Free Pour Latte, please refer to the 2024 Preliminaries Rules and Regulation packet, available soon on the CoffeeChamps website.
- During the competition, competitors will first present a high definition print of a Free Pour Latte Art pattern to the judges, and then present two drinks to replicate the pattern shown on the aforementioned print.
- Competitor’s preparation skills will be assessed by 1 technical judge. A Head Judge oversees all these judges but does not score.
- Competitors must use the provided compulsory coffee and homogenized whole milk. Samples of compulsory coffee can be arranged.
- All wares and equipment are supplied by Prelims Hosts! Competitors may bring their own wares if they would like.
- All judges are required to attend the onsite visual and technical judges certification course prior to competition.

In order to move on to USRC, competitors must first qualify at CoffeeChamps. All unreserved spots for CoffeeChamps will be available for Open Registration in the Fall of 2023.
COMPETITION OVERVIEW
At the U.S. CoffeeChamps Roaster Prelims:
For the 2024 season, U.S. Roaster Prelims competitors will pick up in person or be shipped 20 pounds of compulsory green coffee, they will roast it, and bring 2lbs to their Prelim. Their coffee will first be judged in a blind tasting. Competitors will give a short presentation on their coffee to their panel of judges, then serve their compulsory roasted coffee to the CoffeeChamps audience and attendees!
Compulsory green coffee will be shipped to competitors 2-3 weeks prior to the competition. No substitutions are allowed. The registered competitor must be the one to roast and present the coffee. Any substitutions will result in disqualification.
